Meet Dr. Mike

Michael B. Koidin, D.D.S., M.Sc.D.Michael B. Koidin, D.D.S., M.Sc.D.

I am a proud “transplant” from the Midwest – born, raised and educated in the Chicago area.  I love hot dogs, deep-dish pizza and hope to see the Cubs in a World Series some day!  I am a graduate of the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) and attended the University of Illinois College of Dentistry in Chicago, where I ranked first in my class.

I have served as President of the Massachusetts Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Treasurer of the North Shore District of the Massachusetts Dental Society; I am a Fellow of the Academy of Dentistry for Persons with Disabilities and a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchaud Academy.  I have been a consultant for Head Start of the City of Lynn and the Lynn Community Health Center.  I serve as the pediatric/orthodontic consultant for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and for  MassHealth.  Continuing education is paramount in my specialty areas and I make it a point to attend numerous courses every year.

Midway through my pediatric dental residency at the Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine, I came to the realization that, in order to provide a more complete spectrum of services to my future patients, I needed to continue my post-graduate education in the specialty of orthodontics.  Therefore, upon receiving my M.S. and Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry, I undertook two additional years of training at Boston University and received my Certificate in Orthodontics.

Looking back at my career, I take great comfort in the decisions made to combine pediatric dentistry and orthodontics in my dental practice.  During the course of my day, examination and treatment covers a wide-range of ages and needs.  I truly enjoy providing my patients and their parents with a comprehensive scope of knowledge and treatment options regarding oral health care and growth and development guidance.

When you come to our office and your child meets “Dr. Mike,” feel free to ask me about the latest movie, hit pop song, restaurant or “Star Wars” collectible – they are all in my bag of interests.

The “rites of passage” of my patients from toddler, to grade school, to adolescent, to young adults is a continuing wonder to behold.  I never take it for granted, being a parent and grandfather myself.  Every child is an individual and has differing needs regarding dental care and that fact has always guided my philosophy to treatment.  I believe newcomers to our practice readily notice this “personal” approach – we truly aspire to be “family.”
